Our Australian Day Statement

The Sydney Quins understand that today is a day Australians pause to reflect upon and celebrate the unique qualities of our nation. For many, though, it is also a painful and difficult day.

Today, Quins join in acknowledging the many and varied cultures that make up our modern Australian nation. At the same time, we pay special tribute to our Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters, honouring them as custodians of the oldest living culture on the planet.

As part of the 2023 update to our website, we've reproduced a recent report into the local history of the Waterloo area and understanding of some indigenous past. It's a 10 minute read, but one that will be well worth it: https://www.sydneyharlequins.com/local-history

We wear the Quins jersey and the indigenous representation and design with pride.

We acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the Country on which we play. We recognise their continuing connection to the land and waters, and thank them for protecting this coastline and its ecosystems since time immemorial.

We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations people in and around the place called Waterloo, NSW.
